A traditional learning system where the content is managed by the institution and the new 'web 2.0' way where the learners are incharge of their own content.
Today I met with Anna, who designed a section on Optima for her study unit. (She's a teacher here)
Optima seems like it belongs to LMS (Learning Management System), the older systems of digital learning enivronment.
But due to web 2.0 standards, the world is slowly moving into PLE (Personal Learning Environment)
For now, I think Laurea is looking to have flexibility in learning for this course. But flexibility to what extent and in which aspects?
I need to start intereacting with students here. Have asked Anna to send her students an e-mail asking if anyone can help me with the research. It would be good to talk to existing Laurea students as they already have (enough) experience(?) with Optima.
With Anna today I got to see both sides of a section on Optima. It is pretty good for a course that has students in Finland and who want to have a flexible study option.
But if SID is targeting students from many nationalities (consider India), then Optima may not be the ideal or the 'optimum' choice, what say you?
As for questions:
- Are we to build something within Optima?
- Or an existing option from outside (Joomla, Drupal etc.)
It might limit my thinking and imagination ;)
